My Dog has an upset stomach after starting probiotics, is this normal?Updated 9 days ago

We're sorry to hear your dog isn't feeling very well. This is not uncommon as probiotics can initially affect the digestive system while the body adjusts to the new bacteria.

Sometimes things can get worse before they get better when introducing a new pre or probiotic. This is because the gut is repairing itself and the only way for the gut to get rid of the old, damaged microbiomes is via stools. Typically, these symptoms should subside as your dogs system gets used to the probiotics. Each dog is different and some dog's microbiomes take longer to repair, this is very similar to when humans start taking new probiotics!

When taken on a regular daily basis, most dogs will begin to show results within around 6 weeks. From month 3 onwards, continued use has never been more important. By following the correct directions and regular use, you'll be able to make sure your dog's gut is supported and stays healthy.

If your dogs symptoms continue or worsen, we would recommend consulting your veterinarian to ensure it's nothing more serious and to confirm that probiotics are a suitable supplement.
