The Bacillus subtilis is a spore-forming probiotic and thereby better able to survive the acid environment of the digestive tract. This is confirmed in an in vitro trial, showing no reduction of colony-forming units (CFU) of Bacillus subtilis C-3102 in a fluid mimicking the stomach environment for several hours. 

In dog research, we measure high levels of CFU’s from Bacillus subtilis C-3102 in the faeces of dogs. A single bacteria can only grow till a larger colony if it is viable, in other words, if it survived the complete digestive tract of the dog.
